Now-a-days parents go to medical stores to buy over the counter medicines every time their kid gets cold without understanding its side effects. This does not mean your kid must suffer from cough and cold as there are few safe home remedies for common cough and cold in kids.

  • Honey Lemon Water: You can give your kid this home remedy to get rid of common cough and cold. To prepare this, simply squeeze a quarter of the lemon in a cup of lukewarm water and add a teaspoon of honey to it. Stir this mixture well and give it to your kid at regular intervals.
  • Turmeric Milk: Turmeric is known for its antiseptic properties. Mix a pinch of turmeric to luke warm milk and give to your kid at bedtime. This is a very effective remedy to fight viral infection causing cough and cold.
  • Tulsi and Ginger tea: Put water in a pan and mix grated ginger to it. Add few tulsi leaves and bring this mixture to boil. Let this cool down and give this to your kid with a spoon as regular intervals.
  • Salt Gargles: Do salt gargles regularly to get ease from common cough or sore throat. Take a glass of luke warm water and mix a teaspoon of salt in it. You should then ask your kid to do gargles with it. This should be done for kids above 3 years and is not advised for infants.
  • Honey and Onion Cough Syrup: In half a cup of honey, put medium chopped onion. Let this rest overnight. You can then give this syrup to your kid 2 to 3 times a day at regular intervals.
  • Palm Sugar: This is one of the rare known home remedies for common cough and cold in kids. Palm Sugar or til mishri is very effective in easing off itchy throat and cold in kids.
  • Eucalyptus Oil: Massage your kid on the chest, back and neck with eucalyptus oil or Nilgiri ka tel to get relieved from blocked nose.
  • Sleeping Posture: Make your kid sleep with raise head so that he/she can breathe easily. For this, you can use an extra pillow under your kid’s head.
