Babies Born to Mothers with HELLP Syndrome

HELLP or Hemolysis Elevated Liver enzymes Low Platelet count syndrome happens usually with preeclampsia and occurs in third trimester. Although it is rare and occurs only to one or two out of 1000 pregnant women but is a life-threatening pregnancy problem.

Babies born to mothers with HELLP Syndrome have a life threatening risk. If born under 2 pounds of weight, then there are high chances that baby would not live whereas if the baby weight at the time of birth is over 2 pounds than the baby would be as healthy as born to a mother without HELLP syndrome. Although there is no clear study which could provide the reasoning on what leads to HELLP in pregnant women so there are no clear preventive measures that you adopt apart from following a good diet and exercising.
